Environmental Consulting
Industrial Hygiene & Safety
MZA's team of certified environmental professionals specializes in damage assessment and proper remediation techniques for occupied facilities. MZA conducts on-site microbiological sampling and microscopy to allow for timely monitoring and clearance testing on remediation projects. This gives the building owner the ability to closely monitor his remediation project and allows the building to remain occupied during the remediation.
MZA has been involved in the analysis of individual contaminants in a building, such as lead from lead paint in old buildings or asbestos in a particular building material. MZA has also been involved in the analysis and remediation of complex mixtures of contaminants of concern, such as dust contamination in New York City following the 9/11/2001 WTC tower collapse. MZA has served as the Primary Remediation authority for owners of buildings severely damaged by the collapse of the WTC.
MZA has conducted research on sites and buildings to identify alternative sources of exposure to a particular contaminant.
MZA conducts health and safety audits of facilities and provides recommendations to improve incident rates or achieve OSHA VPP certification. As part of this auditing program, MZA provides on-site training on topics ranging from industrial hygiene to site safety. MZA has expertise in conducting Process Hazard Analysis for OSHA's Process Safety Management Program and EPA's Risk Management Program.
A number of OSHA compliance issues can arise with the commissioning of a new building or manufacturing facility. As part of the building commissioning process, MZA sets up all of the necessary OSHA compliance programs and provides the required initial training. MZA serves on the Guidelines for Total Building Commissioning Committee jointly sponsored by the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
Building or site redevelopment projects, including former industrial sites, can be plagued by a number of environmental issues. MZA identifies previous uses which could have left a legacy of contamination that would have to be addressed as part of site rehabilitation. To that end, MZA develops site-specific Health & Safety plans for redevelopment or brownfield projects. Supporting our due diligence efforts, MZA conducts testing and microscopic investigations both in the field and in the lab. Construction projects and site redevelopment projects can involve a number of environmental issues. Combining our expertise in engineering, industrial hygiene, and environmental science, MZA conducts all levels of Environmental Site Assessments (Phases 1, 2, and 3).
